What Our Members Say

Aw, Shucks!

We couldn’t think of a higher form of praise than what our members say about Zia CU. After all, they are our owners and the reason the credit union exists.

Testimonials

Click the “READ MORE” link to see what our members have to say.

“As long as I can remember, my parents have banked at ZIA CU, and they’ve been happy with how helpful everyone there is. When it was time for me to get my own accounts and start building credit, ZIA CU was the obvious choice. They haven’t disappointed me. The employees are always willing to assist, and they never mind answering my questions when I need more information.”

— Jordan D., college student and athlete

“I have been a member of ZIA CU for over 20 years, even when I worked at another financial institution! It was because of the great loan rates that I started coming to ZIA, but it’s the atmosphere they have created that keeps me there. ZIA treats me not only as a valued member but they treat me like family. I always feel at home when I visit ZIA CU, and I know they have my best interests at heart.”

— Peggy S.

“Trail Life and American Heritage Girls Troop NM1412 would like to thank ZIA CU for sponsoring our troop. ZIA CU's support is vital to providing a program of outdoor adventure and leadership for kids in our community. Partnering with local groups like ours is one of the many ways we see ZIA CU investing in the future of Los Alamos and we appreciate their support!”

— Ryan W., Troop Leader

“I have been a Zia Credit Union member since the 1980s. Zia has always been helpful to finance my many vehicles and provide loan money for emergency home repairs, etc. They provided financial help and services when banks would not help. I encouraged my son to open his financial accounts with Zia also. Zia Credit Union is great.”

— Mari W.

“Zia Credit Union gave me a chance and has been an ongoing part of my financial life. When I was young and trying to purchase my first car, no other financial institution would give me a loan. I had no credit and was trying to build it, but no one wanted to give me that chance. Zia credit union did and they issued me my first loan. The rest is history. I have banked with Zia over 40 years. I have a strong financial foundation and I am thankful that Zia helped me when no one else would. I love that Zia is still believing in our communities by all the services and benefits they provide. Things like scholarships, Kirby kangaroo kids, loans, Christmas Club, etc. The list goes on. Thank you Zia Credit Union!!”

— Brenda G.

“I have been with Zia credit Union since 1997, and I have always been very pleased with the services I have received.”

-Ernestine M.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the supplies you donated to the Pojoaque Valley Middle School. It is refreshing to know that there are local businesses, such as yours, who are willing to make contributions to our students, to help them become successful. You, and your actions, are deeply appreciated by our students and staff.”

--Mario Vigil, Principal, Pojoaque Valley Middle School

Our History

Listening to you. Lightening your load. Lighting your path. That’s the ZIA difference. The Year Was 1955…

…and a group of 200 individuals from ZIA Company, support contractors for the Los Alamos National Laboratory, felt they needed their financial institution, so they founded ZIA Credit Union. The management chose to become a state-chartered credit union. In 1975, ZIA CU membership was expanded to include the entire community of Los Alamos. By 1995, it was expanded once again to include all people living, working, or worshipping in Rio Arriba County. In 2008, ZIA membership opened up to Santa Fe and Taos counties.

ZIA CU Today

Today ZIA is a thriving, member-owned, cooperative financial institution with over 12,000 members. While our roots remain firmly planted in northern NM, we serve our members wherever they may be. From digital and online banking to 30,000 fee-free ATMs to 5,000 shared branches, we’ve got you.

ZIA Education Foundation

Paying It Forward

Going to college is a big step in a young person’s journey. That’s why ZIA CU established its Education Foundation in 1999. Since that time, we have presented $417,750  in Merit Scholarships in the categories of Academics, Leadership, and Special Achievement. Each year, our Foundation awards scholarships to outstanding high school seniors in the following categories: Academics, Leadership, and Special Achievement. But we don’t stop there. We also support education at UNM Children’s Hospital.

College is Expensive. We want to help.

We're offering scholarships to help cover the cost of the 2024-2025 school year for high school and homeschooled graduating seniors. We want to give you a leg up on covering the expenses! Apply by March 15, 2024, to be considered.

Being Hospitalized Is Hard, Keeping Up With School Is Even Harder

Along with other credit unions around the state, we use a portion of the Foundation funds to support UNM Children’s Hospital. The money we donate helps pay the salary for a full-time teacher so that children receiving care don’t fall behind in their studies.

Chip In For Kids

Tee time!

Our annual charity golf tournament, Chip In For Kids, takes place every summer at one of the various locations around northern New Mexico. All the proceeds raised go to support the ZIA Credit Union Education Foundation.

What does it mean to be a member?

As a not-for-profit, cooperative financial institution, ZIA CU exists to help our members save, borrow, and manage their money with confidence. We are committed to providing comprehensive financial solutions and exceptional personal service for every one of our members. What sets our credit union apart from other financial institutions? Here are a few highlights:

  • ZIA CU is cooperatively owned by its members

  • The purchase of a share gives each member ownership in the credit union and secures the right to vote for volunteer leaders to represent the members’ needs

  • Elected officials democratically manage a pool of capital for the benefit of all credit union members

  • Rather than paying profits to stockholders, ZIA CU returns its earnings to its members in the form of higher dividends and lower rates on loans
